It is important to inspect your leaf chains on a regular basis to prevent catastrophic failure that can result in equipment and person damage. The chart below indicates several common wear and protocols for your leaf chain.

Wear Elongation

This occurs with normal wear over time or can be the result of a permanent deformation due to overload. |
Replace the chain when its length becomes 1.03L. Note: Wear elongation of a chain will lower its tensile strength (wear elongation of 3% lowers the tensile strength by 18%) The wear life of the chain can be increased by using lubrication. |
Cracked Plate (1) where the crack from hole of a link plate in the direction perpendicular to tension direction.
