How to use this chart:
- Measure the pitch (P), roller width (W), roller diameter (D), overall width (A), plate height (H), plate thickness (T), and pin diameter (E) of your chain.
- Match your measurements to the dimensions in the chart to determine the standard size chain you need.
- Consider the ultimate tensile strength and weight per foot specifications to ensure that the chain you select has the required load-carrying capacity and optimal performance for your application.
Single-strand roller chains are also commonly called simplex roller chains. Unlike the other guys who supply chains that are just hot-dipped and heat-treated, we offer roller chains with additional performance-driven features such as solid bushings and solid rollers, shot-peened components and factory preloading to dramatically reduce chain stretch.
Double-Strand Roller Chain Size Chart
Moving into a double-strand roller chain means considerably higher tensile strengths and working loads, these chains are also commonly referred to as duplex roller chains. These chains can be found in various drive and conveying applications, all of our simplex and duplex roller chains also are available in anti-corrosive and attachment roller chain configurations.

Triple-Strand Roller Chain Size Chart
Triple-strand roller chains, also commonly known as triplex chains, offer superior strength and are made for some heavy-duty applications. We supply these chains in applications such as drilling, pump, high-torque, mixers and wastewater. Having three sets of rollers that come into contact with each sprocket tooth pitch means that it has nearly three times the capacity to transfer energy from one point to another.

Roller Chain Functions
The core function of a roller chain is to transfer energy from one point to another to the highest degree. A Roller chain is especially useful in applications that require the transfer of energy to be consistent over a long period of time, or where a shift in direction from linear to rotary is needed, and simply for moving objects from one point to another. Our chains offer superior transmission of energy and function with features such as solid bushings, solid rollers, heat-treated components, and factory pre-loading. Roller Chain Sizing
Sizing the right roller chain for your application comes down to a few key factors:
- Tensile Strength - The tensile strength of a roller chain is the rating that represents the force required for breaking the chain. There are three different tensile strength values; minimum, average, and ultimate. The minimum tensile strength is the lowest value of breakage across several testes done on the chain, while the average tensile strength is the median breaking point between the test, and the ultimate tensile strength is the highest load that any particular chain within the tests was able to withstand. Not all roller chains possess the same strengths even from the same manufacture and batch. Almost every manufactures will display the tensile strength as the "ultimate tensile strength" to pose that theirs is stronger than a particular competitor however, we typically display our tensile strength ratings as the minimum tensile strength so undersized and safety factor calculations can be done accurately.
- Working Load - The working load is the strength measurement needed when sizing a roller chain for an application. This is the recommended load for a chain with several factors in play. Sizing a roller chain off of tensile strength alone is not only dangerous but will disappoint when it comes to the desired service factor.
- Application Conditions - It is important to take a look at certain conditions such as temperature, corrosion, abrasion, and hours in operation. Standard roller chains are manufactured from carbon steel, meaning that their temperature range is limited and they will corrode in abrasive and corrosive applications. For high and low-temperature applications as well as corrosive and abrasive applications, we supply problem solver roller chains that will meet individual application requirements. For dirty or dusty applications we also supply sealed o-ring chains to keep lubricants in and corrosion out, check out our complete roller chain line by clicking here! Additionally, our corrosion resistant roller chains can be found here.
- Speeds/ Torque - Each roller chain has a speed and torque limit. To get this information contact our customer service team with your chain size and we will provide documents with this information.
- Dimensional Requirements - Sometimes applications can be restricted on space requirements, when picking a roller chain size it is important to not go outside of your applications specific dimensional circle allowed for the chain. We also stock miniature roller chains for highly compact roller chain applications.

The chains displayed on the roller chain size chart as well as our other roller chain sizes are also available in stainless steel, plastic materials, nickel-plated, coated, zinc plated, lube-free, among other option directly from stock and upon request. Besides roller chains we offer; sprockets, bearings, belts, motors, reducers, electrical, shafting, sensors, robotics, specialty products, MTO products, and more. We have inventory available throughout the United States and Canada, along with an export division (Se Habla Espanol) servicing Central / South America along with Africa, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
