Angular Contact Bearings
Angular contact bearings are designed specifically to carry a one-directional axial load together with a radial load. An angular contact ball bearing has asymmetric races, resulting in an inner and outer raceway which are displaced relative to each other. The displacement is in the direction of the axial load, and the angle can range from 10° to over 45°. While larger than a single row bearing, a double row angular contact bearing has two raceways instead of one and have contact angles that are equivalent to using pairs of back-to-back single row angular contact bearings. The double row angular contact bearings also provide for greater axial support. For greater flexibility, 4-point angular contact ball bearings can carry an axial load in either direction while still supporting a radial load.
High-speed angular contact ball bearings can be used in applications such as turbines and jet engines. Angular contact ball bearings are typically used in applications such as heavy-duty transportation, compressors, industrial gearboxes and pumps, and renewable energy.
