Tapered Roller Bearings

Tapered roller bearings are composed of a cup and cone; the cone consists of the inner ring, rollers and cage, whereas the cup is the outer ring holding it all together. The taper roller bearings can support both axial and radial loads, and much of the axial load strength is supported by the apex of the taper residing in the axis of rotation. These bearings are mostly used in automotive equipment and the mining industry.

While there are many variations of this type of bearing, sealed tapered roller bearings provide the advantage of pre-lubrication, which is essential for applications where greasing the bearing may be prohibitive because of the surrounding components or space and cost limitations. Double-row taper roller bearings consist of two single inner rings and one outer ring that spans the two inner rings. This design, and the variations of this double-ring design, allow for greater flexibility of shaft movements. Stainless steel tapered roller bearings are designed such that the cages or shields are stainless steel. The main advantage of using this type of bearing is that it provides corrosion resistance.
