Angular Contact Thrust Ball Bearings

Angular contact thrust ball bearings can support both axial and radial loads. They are designed so that there is an angle between the races and the balls such that the axial load is passed directly through the axis of rotation and the radial load is partially passed through the path of the angled balls toward the rotation of the axis. Sealed angular contact thrust ball bearings can aid in reducing the need for maintenance. While large angular contact thrust ball bearings typically have a contact angle between 10° and 45°, a higher contact angle lends the ability to carry a higher axial load at the cost of a lower radial load. Double-direction angular contact thrust ball bearings have dual races, with the axial load focused on the rotation of the axis in each direction. These ball bearings are typically used in high-speed applications, such as in turbines and equipment that rotates, including spindles of machine tools.
